 2022 Preview

Pike Road completed the 2021 season with a 14-0 record. Last year Pike Road captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Patriots reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 5A State Championship by defeating Pleasant Grove at the Alabama Super Seven 51-14 in Birmingham.

No team at Pike Road ever won more games in a season than the fourteen victories last year. The 650 points scored by the Patriots last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Pike Road offense ranked 3rd in the AHSAA. They averaged 46.4 points a game.

The Patriots defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 14th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 10.1 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Patriots have gone 25-1 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition.

Pike Road is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only four seasons. They have managed a record of 42-7 over the past four years. Their last losing season was 1932.

The Patriots will be under the direction of new head football coach Ed Rigby as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Rigby Served as the head football coach at Eufaula last season.

Coach Rigby's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 81-30 (73.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Rigby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won three region championships. Coach Rigby won a state championship at Elba in 2015.

The Pike Road Patriots will play in Class 6A region two during the 2022 season. The Patriots move up in classification to Class 6A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Patriots enter the 2022 season riding a 14 game winning streak. They have also won 29 consecutive regular season games. Pike Road has won 6 consecutive region games. They have won 14 straight games on their home turf at Pike Road Stadium.

The Patriots should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Patriots are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1933 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Patriots open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Hillcrest Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 19 at Roy Johnson Jr. Stadium. Last year the Hillcrest Tuscaloosa Patriots finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in second place in Class 6A region four. The Patriots lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Hueytown by a score of 44-16.

Pike Road and Hillcrest Tuscaloosa have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 0-2-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in with

Pike Road returns 5A All-State sophomore athlete Anthony Rogers. He was named to the second team last season. The Patriots also return Senior offensive lineman Vysen Lang. He was named to the first team.
